Pennsylvania Winter

During this year's February visit to Central Pennsylvania, Susanna and I had the pleasure, used loosely, to experience some of the East Costs winter. Not only was the weather very cold, 0 to 20's, but on one of the days it snowed about 8". The weather allowed me to capture some images that are rather not indicative of the Pacific Northwest. It is not that we don't occasionally get snow, it is just the combination of the snow and rolling Pennsylvania country-side, their barns, trees, etc. Some of the images were also captured at Gettysburg National Military Park.During the morning the snow was quite intense. Driving around Gettysburg National Military Park I always feel the presence of those who gave up their lives here. Driving the park in the snow with virtually no one there other than me seemed to add to this feeling.Along Highway 11 towards Carlisle is this old German barn that I have often photographed. Its brick front and tree work great against the snow. Like so many old barns, this farm's age is taking its toll. While the barn looks ok, the rest of the farm is starting to collapse.I also wanted to work the simplicity of the countryside into its of whites, browns and grays.The snow quite over the night and increasing warmed up so that the next day we had gray weather. An old gray barn adding to its similar surroundings.Driving along one of the country roads north of Carlisle, I came across a rather large flock of turkeys trying to find food in one of the frozen fields. In this one, they are spread out across the bottom.
